      Hi katie12drury,

the work I do at the moment investigates how earthworms affect greenhouse gas emissions. I’m also doing work looking at minerals in earthworm poo!

These experiments use earthworms but we keep them in an environment that keeps them healthy and happy and we release them at the end of the experiments.

On a broader point sometimes scientists do use animals in experiments and sometimes they have to test things on animals, for example cures for cancer. There are strict guidelines on the use of animals in experiments and all scientists use as few animals as possible.

      cheers
